Transition from nursing to teaching while working full-time as a VN Faculty Apprentice.

The Vocational Nurse Educator Apprenticeship Program is an innovative approach to solving our nation’s critical nursing shortage. The program is designed to transition LVNs from the clinic to the classroom where they can train and mentor more nurses. As nurse educators, LVNs have the opportunity to improve the lives of their students and their student’s patients. Nursing students benefit from guidance from capable LVNs with current, real-world experience, and our healthcare system benefits from more top-notch vocational nurses.

You will receive all the training and support you need to earn your teaching credentials through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Become a highly qualified nurse educator.

Qualifying Criteria

  • Graduate of an approved vocational nursing education program
  • Active vocational nursing license in the state of California*
  • At least 3 years of professional clinical nursing experience (1 year equals a minimum of 1000 clock hours per calendar year, where at least one year was earned within the last 5 year period)
  • A passion for nursing that extends to educating and training future nurses which includes on-site teaching, curriculum tracks, and certification requirements—all paid by Unitek Learning
  • Willingness and ability to teach in person at a Unitek College campus or a designated healthcare teaching facility during and after the apprenticeship

*Licensed nurses from other states may obtain a California nursing license with expedited service through Gifted Healthcare.
